Sky Helicopters Flooring Project, Pitt Meadows
Sky Helicopters operates out of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, and we were brought in to refinish approximately 6,000 square feet of floor at their facility. A hangar and operations space of this kind sees heavy use, and the existing floor had coatings already in place that needed to be dealt with before a fresh, durable finish could go down.
The plan was to prepare the existing surface properly, address the cracks and imperfections in the concrete, and install a bright, hard-wearing white epoxy system across the full 6,000 square foot area for a clean and uniform result.

The Challenge
The main consideration on this project was the coatings already present on the floor. An existing finish has to be handled correctly, because a new coating will only perform as well as its bond to the surface underneath. Rather than simply coating over the old material, the existing coatings needed to be worked so that the new epoxy would key in properly and the finished floor would hold together as one system.
The concrete also carried the usual cracks and imperfections that come with a working floor, and the client wanted a bright, clean finish across a large open area, which puts a premium on consistency from one end of the space to the other.
Concrete Preparation
Our preparation for this project included sanding the existing coatings to create a sound surface for the new system to bond to, along with filling the cracks and imperfections in the floor. Sanding the existing coatings knocks back the old finish and opens it up so the fresh epoxy can adhere, while the crack and imperfection repair gives the finished floor a smooth, continuous appearance.
Getting the preparation right on a floor that already has coatings on it is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that lifts, so this stage carried real weight on the Sky Helicopters project.
The Epoxy System
For the finish we installed a solid colour epoxy in white, applied as a three-coat flooring system. A solid colour epoxy floor of this kind is a seamless and durable solution that involves applying a uniform colour of epoxy resin across the surface, and the three coats build the depth of finish and the film thickness that carry traffic in a busy operations space.
White was chosen for the finish, which brightens the space and makes the most of the light in a large working area. Applied across roughly 6,000 square feet, the result is a clean, uniform floor with no seams to catch dirt or wear.
A white floor does ask for consistent application, since any variation in the coating shows more readily on a light colour than on a darker one. Running the system as three coats over properly prepared substrate is what keeps the finish even across a space this large.
Scope and Scale
At approximately 6,000 square feet, this was a large single-surface coating project. Working over an existing coated floor of that size means keeping the preparation consistent across the whole area and sequencing the three coats so each one cures properly before the next goes down. The payoff is a floor that looks continuous and performs the same everywhere, which is exactly what a facility of this kind needs.
Sky Helicopters came away with a bright, seamless white epoxy floor across their roughly 6,000 square foot space, installed over coatings that were prepared correctly so the new system bonds and lasts. For any operator refinishing an existing coated floor in Pitt Meadows or the wider Metro Vancouver area, this is the kind of result we deliver.
