MICROCONCRETE
MICROCONCRETE - VERSATILE AND STYLISH SURFACE SOLUTIONS
Microconcrete is a thin, cement-based coating that can be applied to various surfaces to create a seamless, modern look. At Epoxy Experts, we offer microconcrete solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications, providing a unique and stylish alternative to traditional flooring and wall coverings. It goes down on floors, walls, and countertops, holds up to daily wear and scratches, cleans with little upkeep, and comes in a wide range of colors and textures, so you can run one contemporary finish through a whole room. We use it in homes across living spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas, and in commercial settings like retail stores, offices, restaurants, hotels, warehouses, and showrooms.
What Microconcrete Is Made Of
Microconcrete is a blend of cement, fine aggregates, polymers, and additives that we trowel on in layers only 2 to 3 millimeters thick. Because it goes on so thin, we can apply it over existing concrete, tile, plywood, drywall, and most sound substrates without tearing anything out. That saves the demolition and disposal that a full concrete pour would need, and it keeps the floor height close to what you already have, so doors and transitions still work. The finished surface is one continuous plane with no grout lines or seams, which is a big part of why designers reach for it in kitchens, bathrooms, and open living spaces.
How We Install Microconcrete
The look depends almost entirely on the prep and the hand that applies it, so we take our time with both. We start by cleaning and repairing the substrate, then prime it so the microconcrete bonds properly. From there we trowel on a base coat, embed a fiberglass mesh on floors and high traffic areas to control cracking, and build up two to three thin coats, sanding between them. Once the color and texture are where you want them, we seal the surface with a polyurethane or similar topcoat that sets the sheen from matte to satin to gloss and makes the finish water resistant. Most residential installs take three to five days depending on the square footage and how many coats the design calls for.
Where Microconcrete Works Best in a Vancouver Home
Microconcrete suits the way a lot of Vancouver homes are built and used. In bathrooms and wet rooms the seamless surface means fewer grout lines to scrub and fewer places for water to get in, and we can run the same finish up a shower wall and across the floor for a continuous look. In kitchens it holds up to daily traffic and cleans with a damp mop. It also works on feature walls, fireplace surrounds, and countertops, so you can carry one material through a whole room. For condos and townhomes where the slab sits on a membrane and height matters, the thin build is often a better fit than a thicker overlay.
Caring for a Microconcrete Floor
A sealed microconcrete floor is easy to live with. Day to day cleaning is a soft broom or a damp mop with a pH neutral cleaner, and you can skip anything acidic or abrasive that would wear the sealer down early. The topcoat takes the daily contact rather than the microconcrete itself, so we recommend resealing every few years in busy areas to keep the protection fresh, which is a quick job compared to redoing the floor. Microconcrete is a cement product, so fine hairline movement can show over time, and the mesh we embed during install is there to keep that in check.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can microconcrete go over my existing tile? Yes, in most cases. As long as the tile is well bonded and we prep and prime it correctly, we can apply microconcrete straight over it without removing anything.
Is microconcrete waterproof? The sealed surface is water resistant and works well in bathrooms and kitchens. For a true wet area like a shower pan we install a waterproofing membrane underneath so the assembly as a whole keeps water out.
How thick is it and will it raise my floor? Microconcrete is only about 2 to 3 millimeters thick once finished, so it adds very little height and usually keeps doors and transitions working as they are.
What colors can I get? We tint microconcrete to a wide range of colors and can finish it anywhere from matte to gloss. We bring samples to the estimate so you can see the color and texture in your own light before we start.
What does microconcrete cost? Pricing depends on the square footage, the number of surfaces, and the finish you choose. Call us at (778) 653-8356 and we will give you a free estimate after seeing the space.
