Jingle Bao Restaurant Kitchen Flooring, Vancouver

Jingle Bao is a restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia, and we were called in to recoat the floor in their commercial kitchen. The existing floor was badly damaged, and with a health inspection coming up the kitchen needed a durable, sanitary surface installed on a schedule that would have them ready in time.

A working kitchen floor takes a beating from grease, water, hot spills, and constant traffic, so the job was not simply cosmetic. It called for a system that would give the kitchen a seamless, cleanable surface built to hold up to daily service and to satisfy the standards an inspector looks for.

The Challenge

The floor had deteriorated to the point where a recoat was needed rather than a touch-up, and the timing was driven by an upcoming inspection. That combination raises the stakes, because the finished floor has to be both genuinely durable and ready by a fixed date, with no room to let a stage cure late.

A restaurant kitchen is also one of the more demanding environments a floor can face. Standing water near sinks and dish areas, grease, and thermal shock from hot liquids all work against a coating, so the system had to be chosen and installed with those conditions in mind rather than treated like a dry retail floor.

The System We Installed

We started by preparing the damaged floor and filling the cracks and imperfections so the surface underneath the new coating would be sound. Because a kitchen deals with constant moisture, we installed a water vapour barrier before the finish went down, which protects the coating from moisture moving up through the slab and helps it stay bonded in a wet environment.

For traction we built a slip resistant profile into the system, which matters in a space where wet and greasy floors are a daily reality and staff are moving quickly. The finish coat was a polyaspartic, chosen for its toughness and its fast cure. A polyaspartic returns the floor to service quickly, which was a real advantage given the inspection deadline, and it stands up well to the chemicals, moisture, and wear of a commercial kitchen.

Layering the system this way, sound preparation, a water vapour barrier, a slip resistant profile, and a polyaspartic top coat, gives a kitchen floor that addresses the specific ways these floors tend to fail. Each layer does a job: the barrier manages moisture, the profile manages traction, and the polyaspartic top coat carries the chemical resistance and the daily wear.

The Result

Jingle Bao came away with a seamless, slip resistant kitchen floor installed over a water vapour barrier and finished in a durable polyaspartic coating, completed in time for their inspection. The recoat turned a badly damaged floor into a sanitary, hard-wearing surface that cleans easily and stands up to the demands of daily service.

For any restaurant or commercial kitchen in Vancouver facing a failing floor or an inspection deadline, this project is a good example of how the right system, installed on a tight schedule, gets a kitchen back to work quickly.

Working around a restaurant also means being realistic about downtime. Kitchens lose money every day they are closed, so we plan the recoat to fit the shortest practical window and lean on the fast cure of the polyaspartic to hand the space back as soon as it is safe to use. On the Jingle Bao project that meant meeting the inspection date without leaving the kitchen dark any longer than it had to be.
