Herbaland Pharmaceutical Flooring Project, Richmond

Herbaland is a nutraceutical manufacturer based in Richmond, British Columbia, and the floors across their facility have to meet the practical demands of production in a food and supplement environment. We were brought in to coat several distinct areas of the plant, each with its own working conditions, and to deliver a finished surface that would stand up to daily cleaning along with constant foot and cart traffic.

The project covered just over 10,000 square feet in total and spanned three connected work areas: the production floor, the packaging floor, and the dishwashing room. Because these rooms serve different functions, we planned the preparation and coating so that every area received a consistent solid epoxy finish while accounting for the moisture and wear that each space sees during a normal shift.

The Challenge

A manufacturing facility of this kind needs a floor that stays clean, resists the moisture that comes with regular washdowns, and holds up under the weight of production equipment and packaging carts. Each of the three areas presented its own version of that problem. The production floor takes the heaviest equipment and process traffic, the packaging floor sees steady cart and pallet movement through the day, and the dishwashing room deals with standing water and humidity that put more stress on both the concrete and the coating bond than a dry line ever would.

On top of those conditions, the finished floor needed to support the hygiene standards expected in a facility producing supplements for people. A seam, a crack, or a porous patch of concrete becomes a place where residue and moisture can collect, so the goal was a continuous, easy to clean surface across all three rooms that could be maintained without special treatment between coatings.

The System We Installed

We began with full surface preparation to give the epoxy a sound, properly profiled substrate to bond to, then filled cracks and imperfections in the concrete so the finished floor would be smooth and continuous. Across the production floor, packaging floor, and dishwashing room, we installed a moisture vapor barrier before the coating went down. That barrier protects the epoxy from moisture rising up through the slab, which is what allows a system like this to last in a wet-process environment rather than lifting or blistering over time.

On top of the barrier we applied a solid colour epoxy, giving Herbaland a uniform, seamless finish across all three rooms. The finished floor reads as one continuous surface, cleans easily with normal facility procedures, and stands up to the daily demands of a working production and packaging operation.

Scope and Scale

The combined production, packaging, and dishwashing areas totalled just over 10,000 square feet, which makes this a substantial commercial coating project rather than a single-room job. Work at this scale in an active manufacturing facility means sequencing each stage carefully, so that surface preparation, crack fill, the moisture vapor barrier, and the finish coat each cure properly before the next stage begins. It also means coordinating around the plant so that the space can be returned to use on the schedule the client needs.

The Result

Herbaland came away with a hygienic, seamless floor across the areas that matter most to their operation. A solid epoxy system installed over a moisture vapor barrier gives them a surface built for the washdowns and traffic of a production facility, and one that keeps its appearance and performance with routine cleaning. It is the kind of floor a food or supplement manufacturer can rely on shift after shift.

If you run a production or packaging operation in Richmond or anywhere in Metro Vancouver and need a floor that meets the same standards, we are glad to walk your facility and recommend the right system for each area.
